What does a technical analyst do?

Gathers and interprets statistical data to anticipate market moves.

What data is analyzed?
Price trends, moving averages, trading volumes, sector trends, monetary conditions, bond yields, momentum & breadth etc. .

How are trading systems maintained?
Trading programs are continuously tracked for performance. Underperforming  models are discontinued, and new models may be created.

How do we measure the trading programs?
The research department of Appel Financial tests conceptual systems for consistency of return under various market climates. Once a model passes rigorous statistical tests, it is adopted for general use.

The Appel Advantage is their active style of asset allocation.

In addition to investment allocation advisors, they are technical analysts and problem solvers.

Appel Financial will do more than simply "buying and holding" securities on behalf of clients.  They employ early warning systems to determine if conditions might become too dangerous to stay in the market.

Years of study and experience provide the company principals with a good sense of where the markets are, in the context of past history, how the major indices are behaving, and where they seem to be moving.  These skills allow Signalert and Appel Asset managers to judge the current climate as suitable or not for trading.

The approach is one of always  taking appropriate steps to minimize exposed risk.

The question is not whether or not to actively manage client portfolios  but how, and how well.

Most of the decision makers at Appel Financial have many years of experience in monitoring and anticipating significant market developments and changes.

By analyzing trends, using various rising and falling indicators, and  capturing critical data with sophisticated forecasting programs,  buying and selling activity can be accomplished in a disciplined, focused manner.

How often do models  trades?
If market conditions warrant moving assets out of the market into safer positions or even cash, trading activity may be performed. Some models may trade frequently.  Others are longer term.

How were the  trading systems developed?
For more than thirty years Gerald Appel has devised technical  indicators useful in analyzing the markets.  His expertise, along with the research and analytic work of his son Dr. Marvin Appel, produced the complex mathematical models used to trade mutual funds, bonds, options, futures and other securities.
